CALL FOR POSTERS

DEADLINE: July 31, 2009

The 9th Biennial State of the Estuary conference includes poster sessions and oral sessions with invited speakers. We are seeking abstracts for the poster session. This call is for poster presentations only.

The conference theme is "Our Actions, Our Estuary". In plenary and concurrent sessions, presenters will discuss what they are doing throughout the Estuary and its watersheds to address current and future challenges, especially climate change and sea level rise. How can we build resiliency from the ground up, city by city? What will the impacts of climate change be on the Estuary's fish and wildlife, and how can we help mitigate for those impacts? How can we better engage Bay Area communities in the future of the Estuary? Posters can address these issues, or one of the topic areas suggested below.

Individual Posters
The posters will be on display all three days of the conference, September 29, 30, and October 1. Poster Session Receptions will be held in the early evening on September 29 and 30. The sessions allow participants to present their findings and meet colleagues in an informal setting, and allow presentation of detailed, technical information of individual topics and studies that cannot be covered adequately in the plenary sessions.

In addition to the technical posters, displays presenting information about policy and management, socio/economic issues, and environmental education programs related to the topics of the conference will also be accepted. All poster topics must be relevant to the San Francisco Bay-Delta Estuary.

All poster presenters must submit an abstract using the on-line form accessible through the conference website address provided below. There is a 300-word limit on the abstract text. Please fill in all of the blanks on the form, including selection of the appropriate session topic and any special equipment needs. This call is for poster presentations only.

Poster Clusters
In addition to single posters, group posters can be organized about a particular topic (Poster Cluster). Organizing a poster cluster requires a chairperson to organize the cluster and to prepare an overview poster that synthesizes the information from the individual posters to provide the larger-scale conclusions or applications of the results. The posters should be well integrated and complementary. Each poster within the proposed poster cluster will be required to submit an abstract (including the overview poster). In addition, a poster cluster proposal form must be submitted using a separate form on the web site (one form per poster cluster). Poster cluster proposals will require a session title, the name of the cluster chair(s), a paragraph (<200 words) describing the content and focus of the cluster, as well as a list of poster titles and authors.

Student Posters
The conference coordinating committee encourages students to participate in the conference by preparing a poster and submitting it under the Student Poster category. Awards will be given for the best student presentations during the conference. In addition to the student poster category, various activities and resources tailored to students are being developed, and more information on the student program will be available in the near future. To qualify for the student category, you must be the sole or senior author, present the poster at the conference, have performed all or most of the work (while you were a registered student), and you must indicate on the submission form that you desire your poster be included in the Student Poster category.
